Van der San apologizes Linscheer drops lawsuit
Eugene van der San, ex minister of Justice and Police (Juspol), on Thursday acknowledged that he crossed the line when he accused national security advisor Melvin Linscheer of leaking sensitive information to opposition leader Chandrikapersad Santokhi (VHP). The ex minister on Thursday apologized to Linscheer and the nation before stepping on a plane and leaving for the Netherlands.
Van der San explained that he was in fact ‘targeting’ Santokhi who was busy with a scenario aimed at discrediting him. He apologized via the radio talk show Bakanatori which is run by government spokesman Clifton Limburg.
Van der San was reportedly escorted by Linscheer himself as he headed to the Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport. The two brothers in arms on Thursday buried the hatchet. In response to Van der San’s apology, Linscheer dropped the lawsuit that he had filed against the former Juspol minister. Linscheer pointed out that he had to think long and hard about dropping the lawsuit especially given the seriousness of the allegations. The brother of Van der San, Armand van der San, reportedly asked Linscheer to drop the lawsuit. Before leaving for the airport, Eugene contacted Linscheer and the two men drove to the airport together. “Let bygones be bygones,” said Limburg.
