Bandits call taxi to pick them up after robbing resident

-

Two armed bandits on Monday called a taxi and directed the driver to the house they had just raided. This was even as their five victims lay on the floor of their Stanleytown, West Bank Demerara (WBD) home.

The unmasked men scaled the fence of their victims’ yard and attacked them on Monday. They carted off a blow-dryer, phones, laptop, cash and a wedding band. During the robbery, Boodram Mangar, an estate worker was struck to the back with a gun and instructed to lie on the floor while they took his wife and daughter one at a time to the upper flat in search of money and jewelry. The men threatened to “wipe out” Mangar’s family if they did not comply with instructions. In an interview with this newspaper yesterday, Mangar’s daughter, Oma, said that she and her parents along with two relatives were sitting in the bottom flat of their home in an open area when one of the gunmen scaled the fence. “When one of the men jumped the fence that’s when my mom saw and we started hollering,” Oma Mangar said. The woman added that the bandit demanded that they remain quiet while he held his weapon in his hand. The young Mangar said that the lone bandit demanded that they enter the house and lay on the floor. It was at this point that they were joined by the second suspect who struck her father with the gun on his back. “They were asking where the money and jewelry were. One of them took me upstairs and he search and kept asking me where the money and jewelry was but I didn’t say anything. The guy told me he will shoot my mom if I don’t tell him,” the young woman said. She added that after they did not find anything, the robber took her back downstairs and carried her mother. After they were satisfied, one of the men got on the phone and called for a taxi to pick them up at the location. A report was made to the police and an investigation has been launched.
