Price of eggs goes up

-

The price of eggs has drastically gone up during the past 2 weeks. “The price hike is the result of the doubling of the prices of base materials such as rice and flour,” said Eric Hilversum, director of Operational Affairs at Hilly’s Farm. Two weeks ago 1 egg cost SRD 1 but it currently costs SRD 1.75. A batch of 30 eggs which cost SRD 30 currently costs SRD 41.50. The price of local base materials gradually went up during the past couple of weeks. As a result of this the price of eggs also went up. Hilversum explained that the price hike also depends on supply and demand. During the past couple of weeks the prices of canned food products went up which is why consumers opted for eggs. Two weeks ago eggs were one of the cheapest food products. According to www.incredibleegg.org, eggs only contain one ingredient – “eggs.” They don’t contain sugar or carbs either. And they’re the least expensive source of high-quality protein. Did you know eggs have 6 grams of high-quality protein and that a protein packed breakfast helps sustain mental and physical energy throughout the day? That’s good news for people of any age! Choline promotes normal cell activity, liver function and the transportation of nutrients throughout the body. It’s also key in the development of infant’s memory functions. Eggs contain zero carbs and no sugar. That means you can eat a well-rounded breakfast during the week without feeling round yourself.
