Bandits shoot businessma­n

Bandits shot and beat a North Success, East Coast Demerara businessma­n at last weekend before fleeing with valuables they had loaded into his vehicle. Khemraj Tula, 58, was shot to his left hand and struck with a cutlass after two men, one carrying a handgun and the other armed with a cutlass pounced upon him and his wife when they were about to enter their home. According to informatio­n the businessma­n and his wife arrived home and were about to enter the house when they were confronted by the two men. One of the men shot Tula in the left hand, while the other struck him repeatedly with a cutlass. The robbers then took the injured man and his wife into the house where they gathered the family’s valuables. They then escaped with the loot in the businessma­n’s vehicle. Police said that the stolen vehicle has since been recovered. After the incident family members rushed the businessma­n to the Woodlands Hospital. No arrests have been made.

Police on the East Coast of Demerara also reported at least two other robberies, last weekend. Kaieteur News was told that a group of men invaded a Better Hope residence shortly after midnight where a group of women were having a birthday gathering. After scaling a fence and invading the home, the intruders beat the occupants, and relieved them of cash, jewellery and mobile phones. (Kaieteurne­ws.com)
