Boy assaulted with can at daycare center

-

A 5-year-old boy was allegedly hit on the head with a can of milk at a daycare center located in Paramaribo. The assault reportedly took place between noon and 3 p.m. The boy’s mother who has already reported the assault to the police claimed that when she and her son arrived home, he told her that he had been hit on the head with a can of milk. Odette Mijnhijmer then took a look at his head and saw a cut and swelling on his head. When she returned to the daycare center to demand an explanation, the person who is in charge told her that she was not aware of any incidents. The woman who had been tasked with looking after the boy was summoned and claimed that she had forgotten to mention that she had accidentally hit him on the head with a plastic box. She also claimed that she just wanted to give him a small tap on his head with it for being disobedient. The boy’s mother does not believe the woman’s story because a plastic box could not have caused such serious injuries. After she had reported the matter to the police, she was referred to a medical center so that the boy could receive medical treatment. The person who is in charge at the daycare center asked the boy’s mother to drop the complaint. The mother will not do so because the no disciplinary measures were taken against the woman who assaulted her child. Since the assault, she has not brought her son to the daycare center. “It was very unprofessional of that woman to hit my child because I assumed that he was in a safe environment. Nobody even bothered to tell me what had happened when I picked up my son that day. I have been bringing my son to that daycare center for the past 3 years,” said the woman who has already notified the main office of the daycare center and who is anxiously waiting for the results of the police investigation.
