Summer bustle 2017: Para District beefs up street surveillance
The Para District will reportedly take measures against reckless drivers on the main roads. At an urgent meeting that was held on Monday officials decided to beef up surveillances. Acting District Commissioner Audrey Hankers told Times of Suriname that the DC’s Office has decided to work with the Fire Department Suriname (KBS), the Police Force Suriname (KPS), the National Army (NL), The Maritime Authority Suriname and the Regional Health Department (RGD). DC Hankers pointed out that it has become clear that traffic violators are not afraid of putting their lives and those of others in danger. Drivers are often spotted speeding and taking unnecessary risks. Officals will reportedly launch an awareness campaign on the television and social media. DC Hankers made it clear that drivers must not exceed the speed limit and that they also must have somebody who can drive them in case they have consumed too much alcohol.
There have reportedly been at least 2 traffic accidents in the Para District during the weekend. Police officers will reportedly beef up their motor surveillance and set up check points at strategic locations.
