GLO pass rate nearly 61%

-

Statistics indicate that 60.85% of all of the 6th graders at all of the nation’s primary schools passed the final exams. The results were announced nationwide on Wednesday. 11,031 students took the GLO or final exams at the primary schools. 6,427 students (56.63%) qualified for the seconday education junior level (Mulo) and 470 students (4.22%) qualified for lower vocational education (LBO).

656 students (5.89%) who qualified for LBO will be given the opportunity to opt for LBO or redo the 6th grade. 2,146 students (19,27%) failed the final exams and will have to redo the 6th grade. 2,061 students (18.5%) qualified for school advice. This means that the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture (MinOWC) will decide where the student will be placed. If a student has achieved the GLO certificate, and has failed the final exams twice and is older than 14 years, he or she is placed at LBO. If a student does not get the GLO certificate, has failed the final exams once and is younger than 14 years, he or she is advised to redo the 6th grade. The ministry has made it clear that students who received school advice as a result must contact education officials as soon as possible so that they can secure a spot at a GLO or LBO school. The GLO pass rate was much better than last year’s. Last year 52.12% of primary school students graduated for the Mulo and 4.22% for LBO thereby bringing the nation’s pass rate to 56.34%.
