Doctor robbed at health center

-

A doctor attached to the Campbellville Health Centre on Friday morning was robbed at the facility by a lone gunman. The incident occurred during a Violence Awareness programme.

Dr. Uon Thomas Sandiford recounted that he was sitting in front of the centre, around 11:00 hrs, when an armed man entered. He did not conceal his identity. The individual, who was wearing a grey shirt and torn short pants, held a gun to Dr. Sandiford’s neck, then took off his gold chain, and was attempting to take other valuables, but decided against it.

“When he realised that it was taking too long, he decided to leave it (other jewels) behind and walk out,” the doctor said. “He just walked in, took what he had to take, and walked out!” Dr. Sandiford exclaimed.

An eyewitness related that the thief had initially pretended to purchase plantain chips from a vendor’s stand just outside the centre, before entering the premises. Shortly after, he was seen hurriedly leaving the compound. Dr Sandiford subsequently reported the incident to the Campbellville police outpost, and ranks promptly responded.

A piece of the chain was reportedly found at the scene shortly after the robbery.

The incident came as a shock to employees at the centre, since they all thought the man was a patient or a participant in the violence awareness programme.
