100 lbs gas cylinders sold illegally

-

An investigation that was carried out by the Energy Company Suriname (EBS) has revealed that a depot manager illegally had 100 lbs gas cylinders in his possession which he then sold to other people. The retailer had purchased the gas cylinders at a main depot manager who was only authorized to sell them to construction companies.

The EBS launched the investigation after a 100 lbs gas cylinder exploded while being transported in the back of a pickup truck. The vehicle was destroyed in the explosion and the driver was rushed to the Emergency Room. The EBS pointed out that the gas cylinder was being transported in the wrong manner. The gas cylinder was lying in the back of the pick-up truck and it also had not been secured with rope. “As a result of this the gas cylinder started rolling and the movements most likely turned the valve which is why gas escaped. A spark caused a fire which then resulted in an explosion. Only Ogane is authorized to transport 100 lbs gas cylinders in Paramaribo. In the other districts main depot managers are also authorized to transport 100 lbs gas cylinders. The gas cylinders are delivered at the cutosmer’s home and are installed and replaced by specially trained workers. The driver was in violation of the rules and had endangered his life and the lives of other people.” The EBS pointed out that things could have ended worst if the incident had happened in the inner city or a densely populated residential area. The EBS urges everybody to comply with the safety rules and regulations. The LPG gas in the gas cylinders is highly flammable and therefore life threatening if one does not comply with the safety rules and regulations.
