Neus to help 3 children’s homes

-

Activist Maisha Neus has reportedly decided to help out 3 children’s homes namely Mariahoeve, The Risen Glory and Odoniti because they still have not received any subsidy from the government. When Neus visited these children’s homes on Tuesday, she was informed about the delay in the payment of state subsidy. Neus reportedly gave exercise books to the children’s homes. The people who run these children’s homes asked Neus for complete school packages. Neus explained that she would try her best but that she could not make any promises. She also told the management teams at the children’s homes that they can contact her whenever they need help. She will also lend a helping hand whenever it is necessary. Neus does not plan on sounding the alarm at the government over the delay in subsidy payments. She explained that she has already sent a petition regarding the subsidy issue but that she still has not received any response. “There are happy and nice children at the children’s homes which is why it saddens me to hear that the government is not paying any attention to them. The government could send goods to Barbuda and Cuba but the children in our own country are without subsidy. The government is not open for dialogue. These children’s homes are currently dependent on their own resources and local help. Due to the limited resources the only thing that they can do right now is to provide shelter and food. The fact that these children’s homes have not received any state subsidy yet is unacceptable. It is a vulnerable group,” said Neus who has reportedly handed out 5,000 exercise books to the children living at these three children’s homes, a foster home at Benarddorp and students at Witsanti. Neus is scheduled to visit the districts Nickerie, Coronie, Marowijne, Commewijne, Saramacca, Wanica and Brokopondo to distribute the exercise books that were given to her by Prodimex.
