Owner of travel agency arrested

-

The Military Police recently arrested VK, the owner of a travel agency, at the Johan Adolf Pengel (JAP) International Airport. The suspect was arrested on multiple counts of suspicion of swindle charges. One of the customers, RB, told Times of Suriname that he used to do business with another travel agency and that he got acquainted with VK at that travel agency. VK eventually started his own travel agency and RB became his client. RB pointed out that he had arranged his trips at VK’s travel agency two to three times. This year he went to VK’s travel agency again to buy tickets to New York for 3 persons. He reportedly paid $1,930 and received all the receipts. A spot had been reserved on a September 23 flight to New York. When he heard that VK had swindled several people, he decided to check his reservation online but saw that it had been cancelled. When he contacted the airline, he was also told that his reservation had been cancelled. RB pointed out that RB and RB’s mother are good acquaintances of him. VK’s mother reportedly told him that she did not know the whereabouts of her son. RB said that he does not understand why VK did this to him. When he contacted VK via WhatsApp, VK told him that he was in trouble. VK then asked him to buy another ticket and told him that he would pay him back after his return. RB did not know when VK would be back. Sources had told him that VK was in India. RB explained that VK also appeared trustworthy which is why he did business with him.
