EBS saves millions of SRDs with cutbacks

-

The Energy Company Suriname (EBS) was able to save SRD 128 million during the past 18 months as a result of its austerity measures and cutbacks. The EBS reportedly spent a lot of money on the double privileges of its workers which is why it decided to implement a strict personnel policy. The company managed to save SRD 22 million with its strict personnel policy. Contracts of workers who were not necessary and workers who had reached the retirement age were not extended. The EBS kept an additional SRD 20 million in its pocket with this decision. The EBS also used to spend SRD 840,000 annually on a consultant. The EBS also had to cover his travel expenses and rent. Financial records indicated that the workers received transport allowance even though they drove the company car and received fuel from the EBS. The EBS decided to put an end to this and managed to save SRD 360,000 in 2016. The telephone allowance was also reviewed by management. The workers at the EBS reportedly received a telephone allowance of SRD 60 every month and were also given a company phone. The workers did not collect their telephone allowance every month but claimed it after several months. The company managed to save SRD 373,000 when it also put a stop to this. The security team at the EBS was also affected by the austerity measures. Security guards reportedly received 3 times their normal daily salary on certain days as a result of certain provisions. The EBS adjusted the work schedule so that it could save SRD 778,000 and invest the money elsewhere.
