About 4,000 households to tap into LISP 3

-

The third Low Income Shelter Program (LISP 3) will differ from its predecessors. This time applicants will not be required to have a plot because the government will provide parcels of land located at Voorburg and Richelieu in the Commewijne District. 1,780 new houses will be constructed nationwide. The First Come First Serve principle will remain in effect. The Ministry of Social Affairs and Housing (Sozavo) will announce the date for registrations when the time is right. “Nobody has to go to the foundation for the registration,” said Social Affairs and Housing Minister Cristien Polak.

She explained that she wants to prevent people from needlessly visiting Sozavo and the LISP foundation because they will be sent home again. A lot of technical work must be done before the ball can start to roll. “The operation manuals with the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) which provided the finances must still be written. Besides the 1,780 homes that will be constructed, 2,200 people can hand in an application for the renovation of their homes. LISP 3 can help 4,000 households. Finance Minister Gillmore Hoefdraad and the top executives at the IsDB on Saturday inked the final document aimed at formalizing the $35 million loan. “You will have to wait patiently for the announcements,” said Minister Polak who wants to prevent huge crowds of people assembling at the LISP foundation.
