“They are only thinking about their profits”

-

Driving instructor Cyriel Doorenkamp from Climax was shocked to hear that there were evidently 23 people in the school bus that flipped over after it was rammed by a car at Richelieu in the Commewijne District. The law clearly states that a certain number of people are allowed to be transported in certain buses. A 9-yearold boy who got trapped in the school bus after the accident, died at the scene of the accident.

Doorenkamp who has been the manager and owner of his driving school for about 17 years pointed out that nowadays school buses carry too many children or passengers. He expressed concern over the fact that the children are often stacked like sardines in school buses. “They are only thinking about their profits and not the safety of the passengers. Another problem is that the phenomenon of overcrowded school buses is reportedly being tolerated by the police. Measures are only taken against the bus driver after a serious traffic accident has happened. The measures are only temporary because after a while the bus drivers resort back to stacking students in their school buses. Tuesday’s traffic accident at Richelieu claimed the life of 9-yearold Riqelme Cronie and left several other students with minor injuries. The driver of the car that had rammed the school bus, RV, has been arrested and his driver’s license has been revoked.
