Fire leaves 12 homeless
12 people became homeless after a fire consumed their house on Wednesday. Fire Department spokesman Harvey Laing told Times of Suriname that the house was ablaze when firefighters arrived at the scene. Reports indicate that 12 people lived in the building and that there were several people home when the fire broke out. A gas cylinder of 28 lbs and 1 of 40 lbs were taken out of the burning house. The house was connected to the power grid but it is not clear if the owner has fire insurance. It is suspected that the children were playing with fire and that the fire spread. Nobody was injured. One person reportedly jumped from the first floor but fortunately that person did not sustain any injuries. The Fire Department received the call around 16:30.
