A 5egion 2ne community is very angry after a maMor road proMect, intended to improve the quality of life for residents, remains way behind schedule.

The situation in the &itrus *rove 0ain 5oad, 3ort .aituma, has now got the attention of *overnment. 5esidents of 3ort .aituma, a riverside, commercial area in 5egion 2ne, took to so cial media this past week as rains helped to contribute to a situation that has become unbearable. There were images of cars being stuck and school children wading through mud.

. 0 proMect was awarded to .3 Thomas and 6ons in 0ay . +owever, it appeared that the contractor ran into problems. :ork did not re portedly commence till in 1ovember, it has been re ported.

According to residents, it is difficult for contractors to travel from the city and really understand the chal lenges.

:hat would be galling for residents is that another proMect, for 0 was awarded to ,nternational ,mports and 6upplies, for the rehabilitation of roads from 3ort .aituma to 0at thews 5idge, 3hase Two. That phase has been com pleted with even a commu nity centre rebuilt as part of the corporate responsibility programme.
