“We hope that Waterberg will come to his senses”

-

The board elections at the BEP have left the coalition party with a tainted image. Celsius Waterberg who did not get reelected made serious allegations against other top officials of the party. But the party still has no plans to recall its former chairman who is also a current member of Parliament and the leader of the BEP faction in Parliament. The last time that the BEP opted to recall its legislators, things did not go so well. Waterberg has kept its word and has cut all ties with the BEP. He has also vowed not to represent the opinions of the party in Parliament. “We hope that he will come to his senses and that he will do his job in accordance with the ideology of the party,” said former party secretary Wensley Misiedjan who was also dragged through the mud by Waterberg. Opting for the Recall Act will only become a lengthy trial which is something that the BEP knows all too well. In 2012 the BEP tried to recall its representatives in Parliament, Waldi Adjaiso and Diana Pokie, because they had become sympathizers of Ronnie Brunswijk’s ABOP. Nowadays both former members of the BEP are prominent members of ABOP. Misiedjan pointed out that it seems as if history repeats itself whenever elected members have a different opinion than the party. He pointed out that the Recall Act “has never worked.” “It has not worked for the BEP but it also has not worked for other parties.”
