New traffic lights: ³3eople must get used to them´

New traffic lights have been installed and activated at the following intersecti­ons .ernkamp- and .wattaweg and :ashingtons­traat Dokter Sophie 5edmond- and =wartenhove­nbrugstraa­t 9an¶t +ogerhuys- and :illem &ampagnestr­aat, &oesewijnes­traat, Ephraimsze­gen en 5ust en :erkweg, and 5ing- and &harlesburg­weg. But the new traffic lights cause chaotic situations and traffic jams at the busy intersecti­ons on a daily basis. Mainly the drivers who ride along the &oesewijnes­traat, Ephraimsze­gen and 5ust en :erkweg, and 9an¶t +ogerhuysan­d :illem &ampagnestr­aat have vented their frustratio­n over the new situation.

Technical 3roject leader 3avel Gana from the Dutch +5 Group is in charge of the installati­on of the new traffic installati­on. The +5 Group was hired by the Ministry of 3ublic :orks to install the new traffic lights in associatio­n with a local contractor.

+enk :ip, head of the Traffic Department at the Ministry of 3ublic :orks, Transport and &ommunicati­on 2:T & , told Times of Suriname that he is aware of the traffic jams and the chaotic situations at the busy intersecti­ons but gave his assurance that the new and modern traffic lights will result in a smooth flow of traffic. “The people must still get used to them,” said :ip, who added that “we are still in a trial period.” “:e are still monitoring everything and will determine which system works best,” said :ip.
