NDP faction on misconduct of MPs from VHP: “No more”

-

“No more,” said the leader of the NDP faction, Andre Miekaba, in response to Tuesday night’s incident in Parliament when President Desi Bouterse left the conference room early and unannounced after MP Asiskumar Gajadien (VHP) has said some harsh words. The NDP faction on Thursday discussed Tuesday night’s incident to determine its position on the misconduct of the VHP faction. MP Misiekaba pointed out that the VHP faction makes a habit out of disturbing the order and making insults. The NDP faction has had it with MP Gajadien and MP Mahinder Jogi and will demand action from the chairwoman of parliament. The NDP faction wants the head of parliament to switch off the microphones of the 2 members of the opposition or to evict them from the conference room. “We are the biggest faction with 26 members. That is dictatorship of the minority,” said MP Misiekaba. The NDP faction did not rule out that it would leave the conference room in protest if the head of parliament does not take measures aimed at maintaining order or if no action is taken against the MPs who do not behave themselves. MP Misiekaba pointed out that MP Gajadien clearly insulted the head of state by saying that he must vacate the presidency if he can’t handle things. The NDP faction will reportedly demand an apology. “MP Gajadien is making a habit out of insulting people and in particular people from the government and the president. We will not accept this. We will demand that management take action against this.”
