-

Raoul A and 1asser I, the suspects who are on trial over terrorism charges on :ednesday denied being involved in recruiting people who were sent from Suriname to ISIS in Syria. A policeman reportedly testified that R, the first Surinamese recruit who was sent to Syria, had sent a picture in which he can be seen standing next to a tank with an AK-rifle in his hand. :eapons and bombs could reportedly be seen in the background of the picture. R informed his wife that many bombardments had taken place in Syria. The policeman told the court that Raoul A had been involved in R’s departure to Syria. :hen R had reached Turkey via the 1etherlands, he reported that he needed money. Raoul A then wired some money to him. The policeman told the court that the defendants who are brothers recruited people for ISIS. It is not clear of R is still alive. 1asser I claimed that he had only provided a room to R after he had gotten in a Tuarrel with his father. The suspects explained that years ago R had expressed his desire to go to Syria to support 2sama bin Laden. The brothers who had not expected R to actually leave for Syria wired some money to R when he reTuested funds. The policeman told the court that a woman had also left for Syria but that she was arrested at the border with Turkey. Raoul A had allegedly arranged her trip but he denied aiding her. According to the policeman, Raoul A had the contacts to reach ISIS and that the woman was in love with RA but that he was not that interested in her. Raoul A had allegedly brought her in contact with somebody from ISIS. That person who had then sent money to the woman was reportedly killed in bombardments that were carried out by the Americans. The policeman testified that another woman had told him that the suspects were supporters of ISIS and that 1asser I who she had known for 1 months had also asked her to accompany him on his trip to Syria to teach at a university. She claimed that the man would have left for Syria a long time ago but that she managed to convince him stay in Suriname. 1asser I claimed that he tries to live according to the Koran which states that no innocent people may be killed. He pointed out that ISIS kills innocent people, which is why he does not support ISIS. The woman had also told the examining judge that 1asser I does not support ISIS. Raoul A claimed that the facts are being twisted to label him and his brother as terrorists. He denied being in contact with financers of ISIS and claims that he often receives donations of 0 to

1,000 from others. There are anonymous witnesses in this case. 2ne of them claimed that the suspects indicated that they would pay the debts of their mother before also leaving for Syria. The suspects could no longer recall texts that they had sent to others. They also claimed that they do not know certain people. Raoul A claimed that he sent certain text to act macho but that he was also being nawve. He denied having said that all Americans must be wiped of the face of the earth. A witness had heard Raoul A objecting to Suriname allocating a large piece of land to the Americans.
