Geerlings-Simons urges women to think outside the box
The chairwoman of Parliament Jennifer Geerlings-Simons, recently pointed out that women from the coastal region do not eye non-traditional professions. She explained that they should follow the example of the women from the hinterland who are visible in all productionsectors, even in the sectors where strong manpower is required. There is a lot of money to be made by opting for non-traditional professions. The chairwoman sees no reason for the women from the coastal region to let the non-traditional professions be dominated by men. “I have seen so many women at work in the hinterland. They work in the fields. They work hard. They dig holes. They plant. They do everything and they also carry heavy things. But in the city we see that women who maybe did not go to school very long, want to work as maids. That is the lowest paying job that one could find. The men look for gardening jobs. They want to mow grass etc and they earn twice as much as the people who opt for housekeeping”, said the chairwoman who made it clear that it is time for women to think outside the box. “Women can also become private gardeners”, said Geerlings-Simons who pointed out that women must start looking for jobs that pay better. She explained that better paying jobs are up for grabs for men because there is a general misconception that those jobs are typically for men.
