SIV deems terror threat regrettable

-

The Surinamese Islamic Association (SIV) on Friday made it clear that it deemed it highly regrettable that a Muslim had most likely posted a terror threat against Suriname on Facebook. The message that was stated by the would-be terrorist stated that attacks would be carried out on Friday if the two suspected members of the Islamic State (IS) would not be released. The chairman of the Surinamese Islamic Association (SIV), Robbert Bipat, made it clear that the Islam is a religion of peace, acceptance and tolerance. He also condemned the fact that some people pose as Muslims while misbehaving themselves. Muslims worldwide are currently observing Ramadan which is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. “Now it is Ramadan for all Muslim brothers and sisters. It is a month where the focus is on contemplation”, said Bipat who made it clear that the Surinamese Muslim organization want nothing to do with IS and terror. “The members of the SIV board have all agreed to keep a close eye on everybody who acts a bit strange at our meetings and activities. The community must remain alert and suspicions must immediately be shared with the police”, said Bipat. The chairman pointed out that various authorities and organizations have taken the threat seriously and have therefore beefed up security measures. “We condemn the killing of innocent civilians”, said Bipat who had previously mentioned that “the Islam is a religion of peace, acceptance and tolerance”. “When necessary we will cooperate with the authorities in order to make sure that this does not happen in Suriname.”
