The Police Force Suriname (KPS) last week announced that it would request legal assistance from Dutch officials in order to arrest Radj Oedit who is currently in Holland for medical treatment.

$ttorney ,rene /alji told Times of Suriname that the nationality of Oedit is an important factor. ,f Oedit has the Surinamese nationality, there are no obstructions for getting him extradited to Suriname. %ut if he has the 'utch nationality, it is suspected that he most likely will not be extradited to Suriname. +olland does not extradite its own citi]ens to other countries. /alji explained that if Oedit is arrested, his lawyer could argue that he has the 'utch nationality in order to block the extradition process.

/alji also explained that if it is not possible to have Oedit extradited, Suriname’s -ustice 'epartment could ask +olland to prosecute the suspect. The 'utch -ustice 'epartment would then arrest Oedit and prosecute him for the 488 kilograms of cocaine that were intercepted in Suriname. The attorney explained that 'utch legislation clearly states that if a 'utchman commits a crime in a foreign country, he can be charged and prosecuted for the crime in his own country.

Oedit is wanted for Tuestioning as a drug plane was intercepted and sei]ed in his rice field on March 13. The plane was reportedly transporting 488.88 kilos of cocaine.
