Victims of deadly armed robbery identified
The bodies of two people who were gunned down by two armed robbers along the Krakaweg in the Para District have been identified. The victims are 6-year-old Isaak Poetisi and twenty year-old =illavana Mangkoeredjo who worked for gold company Boss Enterprises.
Isaak Poetisi had worked as a reporter for several years at Times of Suriname. The editor-in-chief of Times of Suriname, Alirio Polsbroek, pointed out that he knew Isaak as a real journalist who loved his job. Isaak also contributed news reports to the paper even on days when he did not have to work. Isaak especially loved the hinterland and did not pass a single opportunity to visit the hinterland. “He began his career as information worker at the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs in the eighties. After that he decided to work for the private media. “We have lost a friendly and hardworking friend.”
=illavana Mangkoeredjo who graduated from the Technical Institute (1atin) last year is the second victim who was killed by the armed robbers.
Bryan Sloote, principal at 1atin, condemned the senseless killing and pointed out that Mangkoeredjo was a very diligent student. The managementteam at 1atin was shocked to hear that she had been killed in an armed robbery especially given the fact that 1atin students often travel to the hinterland to collect data for their graduation research projects. The District Commissioners and the companies must inform the school for which company the students can work in order to gather information for their graduation research project. Principal Sloote made it clear that the safety of everybody must be guaranteed in the hinterland. Mangkoeredjo who was reportedly studying mineral production at the Anton de Kom (Adek) State 8niversity was very interested in working in the hinterland.
