Homeless people need food

-

During Ramadan Stichting 1 voor 12 provided a warm meal, fruit and a bottle of syrup to the homeless people in association with Roqra NV and Vismada. The project which lasted a month has been concluded and none of the organizations have indicated if the project will be resumed and what will be done for the group of homeless people who received counseling for 30 days. The objective of the pilot project was to encourage 1 or 5 homeless people to return to society and to give them a roof over their heads. The foundation managed to resocialize 5 people within 30 days. The organizations wanted to prove that it is possible to get homeless people to lead a different life.

Louis Vismale, chairman at Stichting 1 voor 12, expressed his disappointment in the poor turnout of government officials and legislators despite the fact that the foundation had invited them at the closing ceremony. Only 1 minister and 1 legislator showed up at the closing ceremony. Home Affairs Minister Mike Noersalim pointed out that the government would give its support wherever it was needed. In its development plan the government has emphasized the importance of having a roof over one’s head. “Getting the people off the streets is the first step but one must also make sure that they are accepted by society and that they do not resort back to their old habits,” said Minister Noersalim who added that the government would see what it could do for this group.
