Identity documents of attorney falsified

-

The identity card and a driver’s license of attorney Michella Lau-Kerssenberg have been falsified. Lau-Kerssenberg told Times of Suriname that the police showed her the falsified documents which included her name, address and the picture of another woman. The attorney had only shown her documents to a car dealership when she wanted to trade in her car for another one. Lau-Kerssenberg was told that the car dealership then sold the car to a car rental company which then rented the car to a client. The client had presented a fake driver’s license which he used to sell the car to another car dealership that then sold the car to another person.

When the car rental company could not reach the client, it contacted the police to report the car stolen. Investigators then found out that the client had used falsified documents. Lau-Kerssenberg pointed out that the person who had falsified the documents most likely did not know that she is an attorney. As soon as she found out that her documents had been falsified, she immediately contacted local banks to inform them of what had happened. She made it clear that she had only shown her documents to the car dealership where she had traded her car.

She deems it striking that the car was sold to various people within over a week. “It is a serious matter. People misused my personal particulars,” said the attorney who added that the police are aware of her profession and that they contacted her at once. The attorney made it clear that identity theft also occurs in Suriname. She urges the people to remain cautious when handing identification documents over to other people. She strongly believes that the Central Bureau for Civic Affairs (CBB) must give more information to the public regarding identification papers.
