Students to choose their own high school

-

Students who graduate from secondary education junior level (VOJ) schools will reportedly be given the option to once again choose at which high school they want to be enrolled. This means that the central enrollment system that was introduced 3 years ago has been scrapped.

The Ministry of Education, Science and Culture (OWC) has decided to switch back to the old system where students choose a secondary education senior level (VOS) or high school of their liking.

The Education Ministry did not indicate why it has decided to switch back to the old system. Several years ago it was concluded that the old system did not work and that it led to chaotic situations on the day of the enrollments. The Education Ministry explained that the students must go online to be enrolled at the high schools. This measure is aimed at preventing the chaotic situations. The students will be required to have an email address and to download the enrollment form via goo.gl/vBGioZ before filling it in and emailing it. The graduates can start with the enrollment procedure from August 3 until August 9. On August 15 the students will receive an email from the Education Ministry. The email will indicate at which school they have been enrolled. The graduates must then report to the high school on August 20 and 21. Of course they will be required to present their diploma and other documents. The students who redo the state exams will be given the opportunity to fill in the form online from 11 a.m. August 22 until 6 p.m. August 23. On August 24 they will receive an email with the name of the school where they have been enrolled. They must then report to the school on August 28. The Education Ministry made it clear that the students must follow several guidelines. The students can only choose 1 school in order to prevent occupying a spot at more than 1 school. Students who reside in the outer districts where there are no high schools must choose a school that is located close to their home or district. Students who are planning on moving must choose a school that is located near their new home.
