Police achieve success with Operation HOOP

The police force has reportedly achieved success with Operation Hoop. Inspector Lloyd Tolud, acting regional police Chief of Center of Paramaribo, pointed out that the operation is aimed at maintainin­g law and public order in Paramaribo. As part of the operation police units focus on locations where youths and adults like to hang out and locations along the public roads where citizens assemble to make a nuisance with by playing their music loud.

The police also take action against retailers who do not stick to the requiremen­ts of their permits. Operation Hoop was launched two weeks ago. Tolud pointed out that suspect MH was arrested along the Soekwa Street last week. MH was reportedly in possession of a small quantity of marihuana and a moped of which the registrati­on number had been removed. The suspect was taken to the police station for questionin­g before being released. The file will reportedly be sent to the Office of the Public Prosecutor. Another suspect was arrested at the corner of the Oude and the Nieuwe Charlesbur­gweg. BF was reportedly in possession of a small quantity of hash and marihuana. Tolud pointed out that another suspect was also arrested at the corner of the Martin Luther King- and the Latourweg near the vegetable market. FR, a sausage and home remedy vendor, was arrested for being in possession of crystal meth which is generally referred to as sukru. It is believed that the suspect also sold drugs. On August 10 two suspects were arrested at the corner of the Martin Luther Kingand the Latourweg. WA and LC were also in possession of illegal drugs. Old habits die hard as MH was arrested a second time for once again having a quantity of marihuana on him.

SR who was also at the same location was also location for also having marihuana in his possession. CH was arrested at the corner of the Kashmir- and Hamburg Street. The suspect was in possession of a substance which is believed to be cocaine.
