DC Malontie wants higher pass rate in Sipaliwini

-

“We are not planning to give up on our kids because they are the future,” said District Commissioner Margaretha Malontie from the Pamaka region. DC Malontie will spare no efforts in boosting the pass rates in the Sipaliwini District next school year. For the past couple of years the Sipaliwini District has had the lowest pass rates at primary education level. DC Malontie made it clear that the issue must be addressed immediately. She pointed out that motivational sessions will be held for the pupils in association with the principals and the teachers from the various primary schools that are located in the region. Parents and guardians are being urged to attend these sessions with their children. DC Malontie explained that officials deliberately decided to hold these sessions one week before the start of the new school year because that is when most of the district’s children are back from their vacations. When the summer vacation starts most children leave for the city or other parts in the hinterland. Wellknown people are expected to hold a speech during these sessions. All of these people were born in the district and are therefore familiar with the daily problems that the children are faced with. There will be educational games and plays for the children during these sessions. “For years I have been walking around with the idea of organizing motivational sessions for the children of the district because I am familiar with the problems. It takes a lot of time and effort to put something like this together but at the end we will reap the fruits,” said DC Malontie. When asked why the sessions are not held at summer school, the DC explained that there has not been a summer school in the district for the past 5 years because most of the children do not want to stay in Sipaliwini during the summer vacation. DC Malontie furthermore added that she wants to organize a summer school next year for the pupils of the local primary schools.
