State retirees to receive additional SRD 125

-

State employees who are enjoying their retirement will reportedly receive an additional purchasing power boost at the end of September as the government has decided to raise their allowance from SRD 375 to SRD 500. Renate WoudenBhugwandas, chairwoman at the Association for Retired State Employees, pointed out that the union applauds the raise but the union is also looking forward to receiving the raise which teachers received in January 2017. The union expects the government to also give retired teachers the same raise after 1 year and 10 months. The union also expects the state retirees to be paid their additional allowance on October 15. The chairwoman pointed out that the increase of the purchasing power boost is good news but that people must not forget that the state retirees still haven’t received the back payment of the purchasing power boost from August 2017 until the current date. Wouden-Bhugwandass explained that the 2015 Inflation Proof Act compels the minister of Finance to also give retired teachers the same raise as the teachers who are still in active service. “There is nothing to negotiate about. The law must be obeyed”, said Wouden.
