Student who made terror threat released

-

A student from the Anton de Kom State University who had launched several terror threats via Facebook was reportedly released from jail on Monday. The suspect’s attorney, Irvin Kanhai , had reportedly filed a lawsuit aimed at getting his client released. In the lawsuit the attorney had asked for a penalty of SRD 1 million per hour for non-compliance. The Public Prosecutor’s Office released the young man before the lawsuit made it to court. Kanhai told Times of Suriname that his client has been in jail for 2 months and explained that the detention term had been exceeded. He therefore filed a lawsuit on Friday. A judge was scheduled to handle the lawsuit on Monday. The student had confessed to launching the first terror threat via Facebook. He claimed that he was having domestic problems and that he therefore wanted attention. He denied posting and spreading the second terror threat. The terror threat was posted by Mohammed Ahmed Al-Mehdi who claimed to have a message from ISIS. The person who posted the first terror threat demanded the release of terror suspects, Raoul A and Nasser I , who were arrested last year. If the Surinamese government failed to comply, at least 50 people would be killed at the Anton de Kom State University, the Santo Boma State Penitentiary and Lyceum 1. After the first terror threat was posted, the police immediately launched an investigation. Investigators zeroed in on the suspect during the investigation. The suspect claims that he did not launch the second terror threat. A person who used the alias Mohammed Ali Bin Salah threatened to kill people. Mohammed Ali Bin Salah pointed out that Suriname should not consider his threats as a joke and that it would have to face the consequences.
