Foundations hand out school parcels
The Ben Olivieira charity foundation and Stichting de Gouden Lepel on Saturday handed out school parcels to the less fortunate at 2 separate locations. The Ben Olivieira charity foundation reportedly handed out 100 school parcels. The chairman of stichting Ben Olivieira pointed out that he will also hand out school parcels in Nickerie and Wageningen next week.
Benjamin Perré, the student from OS Flora 2 who aced the state exam with the highest points, received a school parcel and SRD 100 from the chairman. Perré reportedly wants to become a technician.
Stichting de Gouden Lepel reportedly handed out 318 school parcelsin the building of Gemeente Gods Bazuin. 30 school parcels will be sent to Apoera. 4 students also received a complete school uniform and shoes. Maikel Blokland, chairman of stichting de Gouden Lepel, pointed out that the foundation has been handing out school parcels to children from poor families for the past 15 years. The foundation is a division of Gemeente Gods Bazuin. Bolkland pointed out that members of the church and the community made a donation to finance the project. The chairman explained that the people from the church visited residential areas to see who needed a school parcel. The people who were ‘identified’ were then given a registration form and invited to the church. The people who received a school parcel were also given the opportunity to pick out second hand clothes that had been put on a long table. The school parcel contains a school bag, a pen, a pencil, an eraser, a ruler, a pencil sharpener and exercise books.
