Coesewijne Bridge to be closed off to heavy vehicles

The Coesewijne Bridge will be closed off to vehicles that weigh 4 tons or more. The ‘ban’ on heavy traffic will be in effect from October 8 until November 10. During that period repairs will be carried out in 5 phases by Kuldipsing­h under the supervisio­n of the Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Communicat­ion. During phase 1, 2, 3 and 4 which will take place from October 8 until October 31 a section of the bridge will be open from 6 a.m. until 5 p.m. During phase 5 which will take place from November 1 until November 10, the entire bridge will be closed. During this period constructi­on workers with flags will give signals to drivers in associatio­n with the police. The constructi­on workers will reportedly use red and green flags. After 5 p.m. only emergency services with sirens such as the fire department, ambulances and the police will be allowed to cross the bridge. People who live in the local area will also be given permission to cross the bridge. The Public Works Ministry is urging drivers to opt for alternate routes.

People who want to head north can opt for the Latouror Indira Gandhiweg, the Saron Bridge, the Hernhutter- and the Jagernath Lachmonstr­aat. Drivers of vehicles that weigh 4 tons or more can opt for the Jagernath Lachmonand the Calcuttast­raat, the Saron Bridge and the Latourweg.

Other alternate routes for people who want to go north are the Latour-and the Martin Luther Kingweg and the Van ’t Hogerhuys- and Willem Campagnest­raat. The alternate route for people who want to go south is: the Jagernath Lachmon, Willem Campagne- and the Van ’t Hogerhuyss­traat, the Martin Luther King- and Latourweg.
