DJ Marshmello donates $500K to child refugee organization
USA - DJ Marshmello intended to keep his major donation to a refugee organization private, but was outed by the group, KIND, on social media.
“Thank you so much @ marshmellomusic for your incredibly generous donation of $500,000 to KIND!” the organization tweeted last week. “Your support in our work to ensure vital protections for children alone will go a long way in helping to guarantee the services that our clients need. #GivingKINDness #immigrantchildren” KIND is an organization made up of activists who fight for the rights of refugees and immigrant children.
The music producer, who has never appeared in public without donning his iconic disguise, wasn’t expecting his donation to be made public. After KIND tweeted their gratitude, Marshmello took to social media to explain the importance of giving back. “I never wanted this donation to come out publicly as I genuinely wanted to do it. But @ supportkind posted about it and I just wanted to express how thankful I am for all of you guys always supporting me,” the “FRIENDS” DJ wrote on Instagram Thursday. “If there’s one thing I’ve learned it’s money doesn’t bring happiness, but the gift of being able to give back to others does and that can be done in anyway besides just money. Marshmello stands for everyone and that will never change.”
KIND aims for “a world in which children’s rights and well-being are protected as they migrate alone in search of safety,” according to the organization’s website.
