More than 260 traffic victims in September

-

Statistics that the Suriname Traffic Volunteers’ Force (KSV) received from the Medical Registration Office at the Academic Hospital Paramaribo (AZP) indicate that 269 traffic victims were registered in September. Helmut Gezius, chairman at the KSV, told Times of Suriname that 200 victims were male and that 69 were female.

21 pedestrians, 15 cyclists, 122 motorcyclists, 98 drivers and passengers and 13 people from the unspecified category were injured in traffic accidents that took place in September.

Gezius pointed out that as always most of the victims were motorcyclists and that most of them-108 to be exactwere once again between the ages 13 to 35. 80 people were injured in collisions between cars and mopeds. 49 people were injured in collisions between 2 cars while 20 pedestrians were run over by cars.

8 victims were registered when 2 mopeds collided and 28 people fell off their moped.

Gezius pointed out that a deadly accident that took place in the Commewijne District claimed the life of a 4-year-old boy. He explained that 3 parties were involved in that accident. The driver who caused the deadly accident was under the influence of alcohol while another driver did not have a valid driver’s license. “It is not clear how the boy was being transported by his father. Where was the boy sitting in the delivery van?” Gezius added that strict sanctions must be set for people who do not transport children in a safe manner.
