Money stolen at AUSV

-

There was a break-in at the Administrative Service for Social Payments (AUSV) which is located along the Gemenelandsweg. The money that was intended for the payment of child allowance was reportedly stolen. Reports also indicate that the Central Bureau for Civic Affairs (CBB) located along the Mr Jagernath Lachmonstraat was also burglarized and that laptops were stolen. Both break-ins happened during the weekend.

Chief Inspector Lloyd Tolud, regional chief of Paramaribo, confirmed the breakin at CBB. He also confirmed that several laptops were stolen. It is not known if there was technical information or information about citizens on the laptops. The investigation is still ongoing.

Burglars also targeted the AUSV. The director of the AUSV told the police that child allowance payments started on October 1. On October the employees closed the building before returning home. On October 8, it was discovered that there had been a break-in and that the money for child allowance payments had been stolen. The chief paymaster told the police that she also worked on Saturday so that people could also receive child allowance on that day. When she was done, she put the money boxes in her office which she locked with a padlock. She reportedly forgot to lock the door. This is something that she usually always does. On Monday it appeared that her door was open. The police concluded that the front door of the building had not been forcibly opened. The investigation is ongoing.
