Young woman caught with drugs in private parts

-

A young French Guyanese woman who picked up 1.44 kilograms of cocaine in Suriname was recently sentenced to 3 years in prison. The 20-year-old mother of 2 young children who was also given a hefty fine may not visit France for 5 years after she has served time in prison and is deported. The woman was arrested at a train station in the west of France after officers noticed that she was acting nervous. During the interrogation, the woman confessed that she was in possession of cocaine. A portion of the cocaine was hidden in her vagina while the rest was hidden in her suitcases. The woman who is reportedly unemployed has a 3month old baby and a 4-year-old child. This made her an easy target for drug dealers who convinced her to cross the Marowijne River to pick up some cocaine in Suriname. She then had to return to French Guyana before catching a flight in Cayenne to France. The drug mule would reportedly receive €10,000 for her services. It is not clear who had hired the woman for this ‘job’. The woman’s attorneys tried to convince the court that the woman had acted out of desperation and that she was in fact a victim. But the prosecutor rejected this argument. “She consciously used her body to transport this stuff in order to reap the benefits,” said the prosecutor who had demanded that the defendant be sentenced to 3 years and 10 months in prison. The judge deemed 3 years an appropriate sentence. The French courts have often called for a strict border policy in Suriname as they are convinced that the drug lords are in Suriname and that these drug lords have close ties with the ‘retailers’ in France. Reports indicate that French Guyanese citizens are often ‘hired’ to work as drug mules as they can enter Europe easy with their French passport.
