NDP management warns ‘lazy’ MPs “If you don’t want to work anymore... just quit”

-

SURINAME The managementteam at the National Democratic Party (NDP) last week issued a warning to the members of its faction in parliament in response to their reluctance to attend sessions. The NDP faction which officially has the majority of seats in parliament is often faced with a lack of quorum. One of the senior officials of the party, Ramon Abrahams, criticized the lazy legislators for embarrassing the party. If you don’t want to work anymore, just quit, said Abrahams at Friday’s private meeting. The names of several legislators from the NDP are nowhere to be found on the attendance lists. The leader of the NDP faction in parliament, André Misiekaba, has filed a complaint at the management team twice. MP Misiekaba made it clear to management that there are several members in the faction who do not take their job seriously. Abrahams made it clear that those legislators should hand in their letter of resignation. “There are successors who are willing to work”, said Abrahams who also criticized top officials who drag the NDP through the mud in the media. “Management will not accept that. We will not tolerate that,”, said Abrahams who added that management is fed up with that misconduct. The NDP is gearing up for internal elections that are scheduled to take place in December. The ruling party has also announced a mass meeting for December 28.
