Bothers released from police custody

-

The Public Prosecutor’s Office on Thursday ordered the release of two Brazilian brothers who had been arrested after having flown a drone over the house of the minister of Justice and Police.

The young men were arrested in Paramaribo North on Monday night and charged with participating in a crime organization, eavesdropping with technical equipment and theft. Attorney Michella LauKerssenberg confirmed that her clients had been released. She pointed out that they were released before her request for the release of her clients had been processed. LauKerssenberg explained that there is a lack of evidence in this case and that she would sue the State over the fact that heavily armed policemen had arrested her clients. The brothers who had to get down on the ground when they were surrounded by the police did not know what was going on. She pointed out that her clients were unlawfully being detained for several days. The defense attorney made it clear that legislation on drones must be passed because many people own a drone. She explained that no fly zones must be established. The attorney condemned the fact that her clients were arrested although they had not committed a crime. The suspects who were told that they had flown a drone over the house of the minister of Justice and Police explained that they did not know the minister and that they also did not know his address. The Brazilian brothers who have been legal residents in Suriname for the past twenty years have never had any runins with the law. Flying drones has been their hobby for the past six years. The brothers reportedly own two drones which they operate in the skies of Paramaribo North.
