US embassy supports Red Kettle campaign

-

The US embassy decided to lend a helping hand to the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign this year. The embassy assigned musicians from the US Army to give a joint performance with the musicians from the Salvation Army in the Hermitage Mall. “They are trying to draw in more donations for the purchase of food parcels for the less fortunate this way”, said Ingrid Hill, a representative of the embassy’s Publicity Service. Hill pointed out that the US embassy and the Salvation Army have had good relations for many years and that the US embassy decided to support the Red Kettle campaign. According to Hill, the Red Kettle campaign is very important to the community because the Salvation Army helps senior citizens and the less fortunate by giving them food parcels. Each year the Salvation Army hands out at least 3,000 food parcels. This year the Salvation Army wants to make sure that 4,000 people have a Merry Christmas. Vilece Thomas from the Salvation Army, pointed out that this year many institutes, companies and people are eager to support the Red Kettle campaign. He also applauded the good relations and collaboration with the US embassy and pointed out that the US embassy is always willing to lend a helping hand. Reports indicate that wellknown Surinamese citizens and the musicians from the US Army will appear on stage to entertain the audience. “Each of them will stand next to the Red Kettle in the Hermitage Mall for one or two hours to eagerly wait for your donation”, Thomas said.
