NPS worried about government’s behavior

-

The National Party Suriname (NPS) is worried about the government’s behavior in the Year of the Pig which started on February 5. The pig represents luck, overall good fortune, wealth, honesty, general prosperity, symbolizing a hard working, a peace-loving person, a truthful, generous, indulgent, patient, reliable, trusting, sincere, giving, sociable person with a large sense of humor and understanding. Born under the zodiac Pig, a person’s character might be gullible and materialistic. The NPS urges the government not to be gullible or squander money. “Given the fact that the draft budget for 2019 has a budget deficit of SRD 8.7 billion, it would seem that the lots of money will be squandered in the Year of the Pig. It is highly likely that the government will try to fool the people that it has impoverished with its policy by handing out more parcels,” said Gregory Rusland in a statement. The NPS pointed out that the macro economy showed a slight growth last year which was the Year of the Dog. The slight growth can be attributed to the mineral production. But the nonmineral sector which has the most employees and which has the biggest share in the economy is still experiencing stagnation. The nonmineral production and the purchasing power still have not returned to the old levels after the drastic devaluation of the Surinamese dollar in 2015 and 2016. “The NPS hopes that the Surinamese will have a better year despite the self-indulgent and materialistic character of the pig. The NPS congratulates everybody especially the Chinese community with the Chinese New Year, the Year of the Pig,” said Rusland.
