MPs wants maternity leave for men to support pregnant mistresses

-

Several legislators recently made it clear that they also want men to be given 8 days of maternity leave to support their pregnant mistresses. During the discussion of the Motherhood Protection Bill MP Ingrid Karta-Bink (PL) and MP Naomi Samidin (NDP) explained that if men are given maternity to support their wives, they should also be given a few days to support their mistresses when they go into labor. They made it clear that the mistresses are also entitled to receiving support from the men who impregnated them, even if he is already

married.

“I am talking about reality,” said MP Karta-Bink who is a member of the opposition. The acting chairman of parliament, Melvin Bouva, clearly did not seem at ease when this topic was brought up for discussion and he responded by advising KartaBink not to make the legislation “more complex than it already is.” MP Bouva deemed it healthier to work with the law that only recognizes one partner in marriage and concubinage. MP Karta-Bink made it clear that “pregnancies take place outside the marriage. “The law does not forbid that,” said MP Karta-Bink who added that men can’t support their mistresses who are not registered anywhere. MP Samidin who is a member of the coalition also shared the opinion of MP Karta-Bink. MP Samidin wondered if men would be allowed to register another partner after they have already been granted 6 months of maternity leave for the first partner. MP Bouva pointed out that the government would answer all these questions at the next session.
