Bouterse wants to hand over chairmanship NDP

-

The next general elections will most likely be the time that Desi Bouterse will be in charge of the National Democratic Party. Bouterse’s candidacy will be discussed one last time during the internal elections that are already in full swing. Sources indicated that Bouterse was ready to call it quits several years ago. He changed his mind after party officials urged him to remain at the helm a while longer.

Bouterse internally discussed the issue regarding his successor on many occasions. The deputy chairman of the NDP, Andre Misiekaba, confirmed the reports. “The fact remains that he is not young. There will be a time when the chairmanship must be handed over. He often talks about it and I think that he will address the issue after the internal elections,” said Misiekaba. The names of potential successors have not been mentioned yet but some sources have already named Misiekaba as the next chairman of the purple party. Misiekaba on the other hand explained that a good management team “will have to cushion the absence of the Bouterse factor in the months leading up to the nation’s general elections of 2025. A new team of party officials is expected to get to work before the general elections of 2025. “We thought that the internal structures would give him the opportunity to rest after the last elections but they once again asked him to remain in office,” said Misiekaba. Bouterse reportedly said that he would go for it “with the strength and health given to him by God.”
