-

Judge Duncan Nanhoe on Wednesday gave a suspended prison sentence to Richard C who was on trial for destruction of private property and threatening to kill his 79yearold mother. The defendant was given 12 months in prison and a probation period of 3 years. The defendant told the court that he had served in the military during the Hinterland War. “You really carried on like a madman. A mother does not deserve that,” said Judge Nanhoe. The victim told the court that she had given her son many chances. “If it were up to me, he would not spend a single day in prison but he may no longer come near me,” said the senior citizen who has been granted a 1-year restraining order against her son. The woman pointed out that she will request an extension of the restraining order. The victim reportedly lost her patience when her son destroyed her television. The defendant want to move the TV but the woman objected. He then kicked the table, causing the TV to fall and break. The defendant had also kicked down a backdoor. The victim had told the court that the defendant had called her from jail to tell her that the fight would start after his release. “He is addicted to drugs. I tried to send him to a rehabilitation center but he repeatedly started using drugs again. This one time he also threatened to beat me and burn my house down.” The defendant who had already been convicted three times expressed remorse. Defense Attorney Hermes Libretto pointed out that his client had confessed to being guilty and that he had also indicated that he was willing to buy a new TV for his mother.
