Moroccan FM visits Suriname
The bilateral relation between Suriname and Morocco is the main point of discussion during the one-day visit of Morocco’s Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita.
Minister Bourita and his Surinamese counterpart Yldiz PollackBeighle on Wednesday reportedly discussed several joint ventures that are mentioned in the 2017 road map.
Both ministers pointed out that the time is ripe to actualize the future plans. They talked about the private sector, the agrarian sector, aviation, tourism, energy and education. The relations between both countries will be lifted to a higher level when the king of Morocco, Mohammed VI, visits Suriname and when President Desi Bouterse leaves for Morocco. Both heads of state have invited each other but it is still not clear when the official visits will take place. “That will be determined at a later phase but it is good to point out that we maintain contact at the highest political level,” said Minister PollackBeighle who added that a trade mission from Morocco will visit the region and Suriname. Suriname is determined to diversify its economy and is therefore looking for new business partners. “We also discussed the possibility of getting Air Maroc to fly to Suriname. The company already carries out five flights to São Paulo on a weekly basis,” said Minister PollackBeighle.
