China wants to introduce traditional healing in the new Wanica hospital. The country is therefore prepared to send specialists and doctors who specialize in this to our country. In connection with this, a delegation from the Ministry of Health of China was in Suriname to get an idea of what our health care looks like. Gu Zhiqiang, who was at the head of this delegation, indicated Tuesday during a press conference that his country wants to strengthen ties in connection with health with Suriname. He explains that since 1963 China has sent Chinese medical teams to different countries. Currently, Chinese medical teams are present in more than fifty countries, including Barbados and Guyana. Liu Quan, ambassador of China in Suriname, says that his country is happy to support developing countries so that they can boost their health care. “In recent years we have sent out more than 260,000 Chinese doctors to various countries in the world. In the region it concerns countries such as Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago. Now it’s Suriname’s turn because China and Suriname are friends, “the diplomat quotes.

Cleopatra Jessurun, director of the Ministry of Health, indicates that in addition to the specialists for traditional Chinese medicine, there is the possibility of bringing other specialists from China to Suriname for the Wanica hospital. This will all depend on the needs of our country, she clarifies. According to the director, the Wanica hospital will work with Western medicine with a added touch; the addition of traditional medicine. A department of traditional healing will therefore be added,at Wanica hospital According to Jessurun, Surinamese doctors and specialists will be given the opportunity to take up the medical posts in the Wanica hospital first. All other outstanding areas will be filled in by Cuban or Dutch doctors and specialists. Health Minister Antoine Elias expects the Wanica Hospital to be able to open its doors not later than February next year.
