Fisherman still missing

-

A 36yearold fisherman who was thrown overboard last week at the mouth of the Marowijne River, still has not been found. Chief Inspector George Randjitsing, regional police commander of the Commewijne District, told Times of Suriname that search parties have been looking for the missing man for over five days and that they keep up the search. SS was reportedly thrown overboard by a colleague namely 32-year-old VG. They were not the only men on the boat because five men went fishing in total. The suspect and the victim eventually got into a fight. VG is said to have pushed the victim out of the boat at some point, but the other fishermen managed to save the man the first time. The fishing nets were brought in after the incident. But after a while VG and SS got into another fight. The suspect pushed the man out of the boat again and the victim fell into the water. The other fishermen jumped into the water to rescue the victim, but could not find him. The suspect then jumped out of the boat, but his fellow fishermen managed to rescue him. Shortly thereafter, he started fighting with them. The other fishermen succeeded in subduing him and they eventually handed him over to the police. VG has been arrested over the assault. A corpse was said to have been found on the side of French Guiana during the weekend, but the identity of the corpse is still unknown.
