De Doksenclub cannot buy Euro bills
For several weeks the duck farm De Doksenclub has managed to buy Euro bills at local banks and local cambios in order to pay its suppliers. It has not however, been able to buy electronic Euros. The forage products supplies have shrunk to a minimum and some types of forage can no longer be delivered. In the past the duck farm even resorted to bringing huge sums of money to the Netherlands in accordance with the Surinamese and Dutch laws. Each time the Dutch customs approved of the import of the money shipment. In accordance with the new guidelines Doksenclub has already filed a request for the export of money twice at the Foreign Currency Commission. “We were rejected both times and told that we had to turn to local banks for international money transfers despite the fact that we had sent copies of the mail that we had received from several banks, informing us that they did not have any electronic Euros at their disposal. The Foreign Currency Commission nevertheless stuck to its opinion. Several sources from within the government pointed out that a permit would not be granted because “they are certain that all the money shipments from Suriname would be seized by Customs or the Public Prosecutor’s Office despite the fact that Doksenclub had produced letters from the Dutch authorities.” “We hope that we will be granted a permit soon.”
