Cuban doctors to leave Student Village before October
The 50 Cuban doctors who are currently staying at the dormitories located on the premises of the Anton de Kom (Adek) State University must reportedly leave the Student Housing Camping Village before October. Education Minister Lilian Ferrier explained that many students will move into the rooms at the Student Village at the start of the new school year. The Cuban doctors will then vacate the dormitories that were built specifically for students. Most of the students who want to move into the dormitories had signed a contract with their current landlords. Government officials decided to use the dormitories efficiently so that the government can still earn some money in the meantime. “It is true that the doctors have been accommodated there for a short period because many students who have already requested a room are still stuck to an annual contract for their current residence,” said Minister Ferrier. “It is about generating some income because the Health Ministry pays the rent to the foundation that is in charge with running the Student Housing Camping Village.” Health Minister Antoine Elias pointed out that most of the Cuban doctors will be deployed in the hinterland where there is a shortage of professional medical care. The Cuban doctors will reportedly move into existing facilities located in the hinterland.
