Authorities to regulate river parties on Suriname River

-

Government officials on Tuesday announced that parties that are being held on the Suriname River will be regulated. Para District Commissioner Armand Jurel on Tuesday held a meeting with the Martime Police, The Maritime Authority Suriname (MAS), local administrators and the Fire Department Suriname (KBS). Officials agreed to put a stop to the free-forall situation on the Suriname River and to make sure that fun events must take place in accordance with the law. The authorities will provide their porfessional advice to the DC Jurel with regards to the granting of permits for recreational events on or on beaches. They will also take repressive and preventative measures to maintain law and order at private beaches located alonside the Suriname River. The plantations Ayo and Carolina that are located along the Suriname River are the property of the descendants of the people who used to live there. Relatives and friends often flock to these plantations to have fun on and in the river. Officials will introduce rules to guarantee the safety of people and to prevent calamities. An illegal summer beach party was held on a sandbar loacted in the Suriname River on Sunday. Officials had not given the green light for Sunday’s summer beach party. No preventative measures had been taken which means that the safety of the revelers was not guaranteed. The organizers of the event had put an excavator and party supplies on a pontoon. The revelers could stand in the water or on the pontoon. The DC shut the beach party after he had been notified.
